Textile and lagoon

In the critical language of visual arts, terms borrowed from the world of textiles often emerge to describe intricate weaves of philosophies and practices—words that organize ideas and concepts while also evoking material sensations that are hard to capture.

Like these intertwined languages, Venice has always been a perfect platform for such intersections: a place where the finest global craftsmanship was showcased, sold, and produced.

Imagine that back in 1474, a Venetian senatorial decree elevated textile production to an art form, issuing a lex to protect nuovo et ingegnoso artificio and safeguard creative minds already threatened by plagiarism.

In more recent history, Palazzo Grassi embodies this ongoing exchange between visual arts, textiles, and storytelling. From 1951 to 1958, it housed the Centro Internazionale delle Arti e del Costume, founded by Franco Marinotti, head of SNIA Viscosa.

During these years, it became a stage for exhibitions and fashion shows celebrating fabrics and styles from around the world—before evolving into a space dedicated mainly to contemporary art under Marinotti’s son Paolo, later supported by the Agnelli family and now the Pinault Foundation.

Our studio is just steps away from the Palazzo, and our spirit aligns with that legacy—not only geographically but, above all, in attitude.

We share the desire to bring the decorative arts back to center stage, to create a dialogue where knowledge and creation exist on equal footing. Like a medieval workshop where skill and ornamentation were inseparable, our constellation of articles seeks to trace these intersections and keep the flame alive.

And we want to tribute the textiles with a homage to one of our best sellers: the F58. Woven in Italy as a jacquard fabric made of 25% wool, 25% linen, and 50% cotton.
