Chiarastella Cattana is a textile designer who founded her space in Venice in 2002, combining contemporary sensibility with traditional Italian craftsmanship.
After a long career in the development and design of yarns and artefacts for fashion in Milan, she moved to Venice to focus on her own projects, putting technique and intelligence at the service of international clients and designers.
What makes her work distinctive is the dialogue between a rigorous formative experience in Milan, during the years when the city was establishing itself as a centre of design and communication, carrying forward the architectural legacy of Portaluppi and Gio Ponti, and her subsequent experiences in Venice, among contemporary art and perspectives from around the world. A continuous exercise in looking elsewhere, with solid roots.
The company’s work begins in Italy’s textile districts, where knowledge of weaving and finishing has been passed down through generations. Chiarastella Cattana brings this expertise to Venice, developing a world in which craft and contemporary design meet through research, experimentation and everyday use.
We do not release seasonal collections. The rhythm follows encounters: a conversation with a craftsman, a new material, a client’s need, or an event that calls for a special creation. Products are developed in close collaboration with small and medium-sized Italian manufacturers, from south to north. Each project begins in the studio, rooted in research, testing and shared knowledge.
Our textiles are made to accompany everyday life. Natural fibres and carefully studied constructions are chosen for their tactile qualities, performance and durability. We work with linen, cotton, wool, cashmere and silk, collaborating closely with skilled Italian manufacturers and artisans.
The collection extends across the landscape of living: from fabrics by the metre to table linens, throws, towels, cushions, rugs, handmade glassware, lighting, furniture and a selection of garments by Alfa Perro. Each object is conceived to be used and lived with, developing character over time rather than following seasonal trends.
Alongside the collections, the studio develops bespoke textile projects for private interiors, architects, designers, institutions and brands, as well as collaborations with contemporary artists. Its practice has grown through projects with clients including Adam Charlap Hyman & Herrero, CHANEL, Edgar Jayet, Francesco Balzano, Luis Laplace, Marianna Kennedy, Martin Brûlé, Max Mara, Nicoletta Fiorucci, Raf Simons with CALVIN KLEIN, Rho Interiors, Rodman Primack and Sophie Hicks.
Environmental sustainability and social respect guide our production choices and our relationships with suppliers, artisans and organisations. For linen, we work with suppliers certified by Masters of Linen™, supporting a traceable European supply chain in which flax is grown and linen is spun and woven in Europe.
