Mondo Novo, Textile campaign
Perhaps now more than ever, the magic of one’s domestic space becomes a place for dreaming and practising freedom. A deeply personal identity shaped through intimate and surreal desires. In Giambattista Tiepolo’s painting Il Mondo Novo, happiness is portrayed through the discovery of choices and spaces beyond reality, capable of letting the spirit travel and, perhaps, awakening the desire to remain suspended within them. In the heart of eighteenth-century Venice, a group of figures, all depicted from behind, stand mesmerized before a diorama: a small wooden structure through which fantastic miniature scenes could be observed through a narrow opening. New worlds, then. At the time, the imagination of territories still unknown and unexplored.
In the same spirit, we wanted to build our own worlds, entirely lined with a careful selection of Chiarastella Cattana textiles by the meter, chosen for their ability to evoke elsewhere, distant possibilities, and imagined interiors.
The diorama itself later appears in a scene from Ettore Scola’s 1982 film Il Mondo Nuovo, which takes its title from the same vision.
The Limen room is perhaps our favourite. Made from 100% yarn dyed linen, Limen represents our almost mystical encounter with the world of Dagobert Peche, a key figure of the Wiener Werkstätte who accompanied us throughout the past year during the development of a special series.
The photograph you see is also a tribute to Sophie Calle and her Suite Vénitienne.
LYS in its Multicolor version, was the very first textile of this series.
The possibilities of this fabric feel endless to us. Both we and the clients who love it, imagine it covering almost anything by now. We simply imagined the kind of escape we all dream about at 6 p.m., still sitting at our desks at home: sand, the shadow of a palm tree, and a book by Virginia Woolf.
Savio, like all of our production, feels entirely timeless. Also made from 100% yarn dyed linen, it seems perfectly at home in our kitchen. Yes, inside the pantry you can spot countless products, especially from the Campanian tradition of Southern Italy, and for this we must thank the miniature master Savastano. Savio feels perfectly at ease in this dining room.
PS. We also created a mini Goccia tablecloth, a mini pastel tea towel, and even a mini Stilla.
LYS in its Pastel version is, to us, almost a painting. An infinite delicacy transformed into a gesture of nuances we wish could become a filter for everyday life. Surrealism completely took over here as well. The balcony remains suspended, while a work by Asger Jorn quietly accompanies the scene.
Altheas in its Crepuscolo version lets us get lost in an endless landscape of flowers, hummingbirds, and dragonflies. This jacquard textile combines cotton, wool, and linen, and is fully reversible. It reveals two equally striking sides, each offering its own balance of colour and texture.
