"Pietra che rotola non fa muschio"
"Rolling stone never gathers no moss"
There are several theories regarding the origin of this proverb known since ancient Rome. This proverb refers to what is well known about mosses and lichens: that they are slow-growing organisms that do not thrive if disturbed. One sure way to prevent a moss colony from growing on a stone is to move it. In the usual tradition, our character moves little until the moss covers his path, while in the more modern understanding it reaches suggests that success depends on action and a kind of metaphorical transience with a contradictory reading.
